The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. An air conditioner or heat pump relies on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s circulated around your home. This liquid is housed within the coils of a cooling system, but one of the most typical refrigerants that’s been in use for many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being replaced in response to environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, the production of R-22 will end all together. Introducing R-410A Recognized by the EPA, R-410A is a chlorine-free and ozone-friendly refrigerant. R-410A will keep your home cool without harming the environment. What’s more, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are designed to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system operate efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for reliability, quiet operation and better dehumidification, so you’re sure to stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Colvin's Inc in Excelsior Springs, our cooling products can work with R-410A. If your system was made before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is scarce. Some manufacturers offer alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
